A Partial History of My Illness

When you have a mental illness and a blog, the question is whether or not to share all the gory details of your illness. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

I think on the whole sharing is a good thing, even when the details are particularly lurid. I don’t want to be an object of prurient interest for healthy people, but I do care a great deal about other mentally ill people. Hopefully other mentally ill people can see that they’re not alone in their life experiences and hopefully they can gain something from my experience.

The following posts, therefore, from Childhood to Epilogue are an extremely patchy history of my mental illness (without many of the details of my life). Was there any use to it or was it an exercise in narcissism?

Heh heh…perhaps all social media is at least a partial exercise in narcissism, but don’t sweat it. We’re all just trying to find our place in a Me saturated world. Happy to find your blog. I’m just starting mine, and I too wonder how much to reveal, how much to omit, and how will it affect my personal and professional relationships. Hm…that might make a good post, actually. Thanks for the inspiration. All the best….
